Einstein once said, “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it.” Everyone can learn to write well, if they’re willing to do the work. Good writing isn’t as difficult as most people think, but once we’ve developed bad habits, we must replace them with good ones. This course will guide you through five mostly simple but very effective principles to immediately improve your writing. Each unit will explain a simple principle, how to apply it to the writing you’re already doing (whether as a high school student, an elementary or high school teacher, or a business professional) and guide you through practice sessions created to reinforce the 5 Principles as your understanding of them grows. I promise, you will become a better writer. The only question is how much better. Email Mr. Hanson to find out how he can help you prepare (but if you’re a kid, ask your teacher or parents first.)

The 5 Principles of Good Writing:
1. Use Fewer Words.
2. Good Verbs = Good Writing
3. Search for the Best Words
4. Follow the Rules (thus, you must learn them… Grammarology).
5. Subordinate (transform clauses into phrases, phrases into words.)
